Fishing in Port Douglas with Akula Sportfishing
Welcome to our June 2025 report. The month of June was very windy overall, providing minimal weather window opportunities to allow us to get out. We were busy carrying out inshore reef and estuary charters.
I have been in this game up here for over 30 years and I never cease learning something new, especially when you review old fishing records and correlate them with moon phase and tide. There was one absolute epic session when the planets literally aligned and it was on big time! We ran out of room to ice down big Nannygai and Red Emperor, and were actually throwing back 5-6 kg Nannygai and Red Emperor!
You literally need everything in your favour, including the anglers ability….but I love it when a plan comes together!!!
Sharks are ever present, and unfortunately thicker where the quality fish are, and as always they take their fair share.
Water temperature was 23 degrees, and this cooler water does promote larger fish coming into shallower ground.
