Fishing in Port Douglas with Akula Sportfishing – MaRCH 2025 Report

by: JASON 08/ 04 / 2025

Welcome to our March report.

The month of March was a mixture of weather; either blowing dogs off chains, or glass out conditions with little in between these extremes.

The challenge of fishing throughout the majority of March was most of the time we were out on charter the tides were not great for generating run, or a bite.

Timing is everything!

When the planets aligned we got onto some great fish, however a lot of the time the bite window did not last long.

Sharks were unfortunately relentless, especially around the dark moon.

After a recent trip to Townsville to attend a shark depredation seminar it is disappointing that Qld Fisheries accept there is a problem with all whaler species and Bull sharks, however there will be zero action as the green lobbyists refer to sharks as the “New Dolphins”!

The water temperature was still 29-30 degrees, and we look forward to the temperature dropping to help stimulate fishing activity, and to help fire up some of the shallower grounds.

We will be flat out heading into the month of April with many people wanting to do a Port Douglas fishing charter over the Easter period, so fingers crossed the weather plays the game and we have some great catches to report!
